Microsoft offered a voluntary exit program to roughly 60,000 employees, the company confirmed on October 26. The Voluntary Exit Offer covers staff at vice president level and below in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom.

The 60,000 eligible employees represent roughly a quarter of Microsoft's total workforce, which stood at about 223,000 at the end of June.

Chief People Officer Amy Coleman told staff the program “reflects an important part of how we're evolving our approach to change: creating greater flexibility.”

Earlier in 2026, Microsoft offered a similar voluntary exit to retirement-age employees. About 30% accepted, or 2,625 of the 8,750 eligible workers.

Microsoft has not disclosed payout amounts for the new program, the expected acceptance rate, or an implementation timeline.
