Schroders launched a tokenized version of its emerging markets bond fund on the Solana blockchain. The project runs on tokenization platform Centrifuge.
Schroders manages $1.1 trillion for clients, and the move was reported on November 4. It expands the asset manager's range of actively managed funds onchain, at a time when both Schroders and the wider market have so far kept tokenized products mostly in cash instruments.
The fund tracks Schroders' International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bonds strategy. Marita McGinley, operations chief at Schroders, called the launch further evidence of the firm's commitment to developing world-class investment solutions for investors in the digital age.
John Mensack, senior investment director for fixed income at Schroders, said experience, local knowledge and skilled portfolio management matter especially for emerging markets debt.
Centrifuge said onchain fixed income has so far been built mainly around cash and short-term sovereign debt. Emerging markets debt brings a markedly different balance of risk and return to the platform, said Anil Sood, chief strategy and growth officer at Centrifuge.
Nick Ducoff, head of institutional growth at the Solana Foundation, said the market is moving beyond tokenized cash products toward sophisticated strategies.
On its own platform, Centrifuge has tokenized assets worth $750 million. The wider market for tokenized real-world assets totals $39 billion, and $14 billion of that sits in Treasury and money-market funds.
Schroders had already moved onchain: in August, Irish regulators cleared its fund investing in tokenized money markets. New York Life Investment Management, which manages roughly $800 billion, joined Centrifuge's platform in June. Federated Hermes, which oversees $911 billion, said in October it plans to tokenize fund shares starting in early 2027.
